Scientific workshop on water organized by KNUST and ParisTech

Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (Dr. Adèle Bressy, Leesu) organises on June 17 and 24, 2021 two workshops on water in partnership with Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre, Kumasi (RWESCK), a Center of Excellence funded by the World Bank.

Researchers from the other partners of FACEA project – AgroParisTech, Chimie ParisTech – PSL et MINES ParisTech – PSL – will also participate in these workshops.

These seminar follow the visit of a delegation representing the 4 schools to Ghana in January 2020 at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

As far as it was not possible to host delegation from Ghana in Paris due to the pandemic, ParisTech schools are organizing a series of scientific workshops with their partners in order to pursue discussions and identify topics of common interest.

8ème édition des Journées Doctorales en Hydrologie Urbaine: 7 - 9 novembre 2018

Du 7 au 9 novembre 2018 le Leesu et le Cerema ont organisé la 8ème édition des Journées Doctorale en Hydrologie Urbaine.

Les JDHU sont organisées depuis 2004, tous les deux ans, par les équipes de recherche françaises avec le parrainage des associations professionnelles de l'eau SHF et ASTEE.

Les Journées ont permis aux participants d'échanger sur leurs travaux avec les chercheurs et praticiens dans une atmosphère décontracté, de s'entraîner à l'animation scientifiques, de faciliter la publication dans les revues de la SHF et de l'ASTEE et de faire du réseautage.

Thèmes des communications

Les thèmes des JDHU sont ceux de l'hydrologie urbaine au sens large, divisés en quatre catégories ci dessous. Il s'agit d'une liste non exhaustive. En cas de doute n'hésitez pas à contacter le comité d'organisation.

Cycles des eaux urbaines (eaux usées et eaux pluviales): connaissance et modélisation des flux d'eau et des polluants dans les bassins versants urbains ; politique publiques ; approches géographiques et historiques ;
Ouvrages de gestion (réseaux, techniques alternatives, dispositifs de traitement): étude des processus physiques, chimiques et biologiques au sein des ouvrages ; méthodes et modèles pour la conception, le dimensionnement, l'exploitation ; évaluation des performances; gestion patrimoniale; approches urbanistiques et paysagères : analyse de perception et des conditions d'appropriation ;
Ressources alternatives pour la ville : valorisation des eaux pluviales, eaux d'exhaure, eaux grises et eaux traitées ; concepts alternatifs d'assainissement et approches socio-économiques ;
Services écosystémiques rendus par l'eau en ville et ses ouvrages de gestion : lien avec la biodiversité, climat urbain, hydrologie, le bien-être et les aménités.

Communiqué à l'issue des 8èmes Journées Doctorales en Hydrologie Urbaine

Le Laboratoire eau environnement et systèmes urbains - Leesu (ENPC, Université Paris-Est Créteil, AgroParitech) et Cerema d'Île-de-France ont co-organisés avec l'aide de l'association H2O, les 8ème Journées Doctorales en Hydrologie Urbaine (JDHU) du 7 au 9 Novembre 2018 sur Paris.

Les 8ème JDHU se sont tenus au Pavillon de l'Eau, mis à disposition par le partenaire de l'événement Eau de Paris.

Les prix SUEZ pour les meilleures présentations ont été décernés à:

Claudia Paijens (1ère prix) pour son travail sur les biocides dans les matériaux de construction,
Vincent Dufour (2ème prix) pour son travail sur le rôle des villes dans la contamination des cours d'eau par les pesticides et
Robin Treilles (3ème prix) pour son travail sur les macro- et micro-plastiques dans les rejets urbains de temps de pluie.

Les Services de l'Eau et d'Assainissement de la Ville de Paris (DPE STEA) ont accueilli les participants pour la visite technique pour présenter:

son plan pluie (ParisPluie),
son centre de supervision du réseau d'assainissement (Gaaspar) et
un ensemble des techniques alternatives pour la gestion des eaux pluviales de la ZAC Boucicaut (15ème arrondissement).

Le soir de Gala, l'association Sources du Nord - Études et Préservation (ASNEP) a fait découvrir aux participants le réseau d'aqueducs qui alimentent le Nord de Paris depuis le XIIème siècle.

First WISE-Cities workshop

First WISE-Cities workshop at Marne-La-Vallee on 29 June 2018

Considering the need to move from a water paradigm to an urban environment paradigm, the WISE Cities project (Tremplin 2017 project proposal of i-site FUTURE) aims to study innovative technologies and practices pertaining to the water-energy-soil nexus. This multidisciplinary project gathers the following partners: CSTB, LEESU-Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées, ESIEE Paris and IFSTTAR and will concentrate first on two main case cities (Paris and Nantes) and two time horizons (2030 and 2050).

In 2018, the WISE Cities project received seed funding from i-site FUTURE in order to be further developed and re-submitted mid-October 2018 for a 4 year period.

In this context, the first WISE Cities workshop, was held on June 29th at ESIEE Paris (Marne-la-Vallée), aimed at bringing the project research community together to discuss key aspects as well as the advances of the project before the new deadline.

Renowned researchers from the Paris Interdisciplinary Energy Research Institute (LIED/PIERI) and the UMRAE from Nantes were invited to share their experience of interdisciplinary research crossing social and engineering sciences. These interventions highlighted the necessity of discussing interdisciplinary methods, problems and issues in the early phases of the project and to consider interdisciplinarity more as a working methodology, not limited to a specific task of the project. In these regards, it arose that a certain level of flexibility in vocabulary is needed for fruitful cross-disciplinary collaborations.

A specific session aimed at letting the different understandings of Water-Energy-Soil nexus emerge from participants, who were invited to answer the question “What is a WES innovation?” The results of the exercise - which has been analysed and integrated into the new version of the project - point out the core role of water as a driving element of the nexus. Furthermore, soil was clearly identified as generating the widest variety of meanings, ranging from real estate and property to a physical substrate for vegetation growth. Moreover, participants agreed that the WES nexus calls for a decentralized understanding of environmental resource management and a connection with societal visions and political choices.

Other topics were also discussed: approaches for scenario elaboration and deployment and the identified demonstrators where WES innovation will be tested in real-world conditions.
